Rebekah Stonelaitken NDIS Support Coordinator

Tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your interests

I am blessed with a wonderful and supportive husband and two children. I am a fully qualified dance teacher and have taught jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop to many children of all abilities for over 10 years. I am part of the Adelaide Amateur Musical Theatre community having appeared in musicals, as well as choreographing them.

What led you to work in the disability/mental health sector?

My brother lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and I live with high functioning anxiety and depression. It’s important to me that all people have someone in their lives who is there to support and connect with them in their daily life.

What is support coordination, in your words?

My role is to be there for every one of my Participants, support them and provide them with the tools, resources and access to other providers to ensure that they can be living their best life. I pride myself on ensuring the support I give is tailored directly to each individual Participant.

What do you love about your role?

The best part of being a Support Coordinator is seeing my Participants succeed. This includes working towards their goals, learning how to advocate for themselves and seeing that proud smile on their face.

What is your greatest accomplishment with Accept Care?

I feel proud to have supported Participants to receive funding for major home modifications and increases in funding for their day-to-day life. 99% of my ‘Change of Circumstances’ or ‘Review of Reviewable Decisions’ are accepted, and the funding that is needed is acquired.

Anything else you'd like to share?

The best part of NDIS is choice and control – I believe this is the most important practice and knowledge for this industry. This is the best part of being a member of the Accept Care Differently Abled team (as a Participant and an employee) as this is the heart of our organisation. We strive to ensure all Participants know and implement their choice and control in their lives.
